Are There Such Things As Small Angel Fish?

I am considering a new 20 gallon tank, and I was looking at Petsmart for potential fish to get for my tank. I noticed that they had angel fish in different sizes. Are these different kinds of fish, or are they just at a younger age? If they are just younger, then I guess I won't get any angels.

Yep they were probably younger.. The smaller they are the younger they are.. I have 2 angelfish and they were tiny when I got them they are huge now..

I think Pterophyllum scalare are the smallest species of Angelfish, so yes they are going to be babies, but will reach a size of 6 inches or more when mature!

Yup, just younger.

I would stay away from PetSmart angels - I have never been able to keep any alive for longer than a week. They don't seem to be hardy stock.

i've had my petsmart angels for about 4 months now and they're doing fine, guess it's just the luck of the draw

A lot of them are so heavily inbred, that they are sooo fragile. These types are normally found in chain pet stores, just like Pet Smart.

Actually, the smallest is P. leopoldi at around 8cm in aquaria, smaller in the wild.

Ohh okay tahnks for that info! I thought they got bigger then Pterophyllum scalare, but not as big as Pterophyllum altum.
