i just fornd my old skimmer it is a bunch of years old and don't look no where as complex as the ones on the market today.somehow it has gotten itself a big hole in the side so i figured i but a new more updated one.lokking around i see the prices are through the roof on some of these units these days.apparently they dont make $100 skimmers anymore.
i have a 150 gallon now .anyony have any suggestions where to start looking for a moderately priced skimmer?usually i wouldnt worry about spending the cash but ,between more live rock upgraded lighting 150 gallons of sw more sand bed its adding up pretty fast.

Hi
Skifletch gave me this advice for an in sump skimmer. Don't know if you're in the US or not...this is what his advice was based off of. I'm from the U.S.

You could always try looking for a second hand one. Try finding a reef club in your area or something :D

Well for an in-sump skimmer I'd reccomend the Octopus line of skimmers. Best bang for the buck out there, hands down. Other options would be ASM, EuroReef, or AquaC Urchin models. Avoid cheap skimmers like the plague, they aren't even worth their weight in plastic...

p.s. Yes Ski...I saved ALL of your advice

I have a Coralife super skimmer rated for 220 gallon tanks. It cost $200 and works perfectly, if a bit touchily. Pulls out tons of wastewater/foam. What you are paying for in most super-expensive aquarium equipment is ridiculously high markup.
