Real plants are far more interesting - plus as they grow you can split them, move them about, grow them on bogwood etc....

Well, that's my opinion anyway!

As with a lot of these polls, the answer to the question is 'depends on the tank and the fish'

Healthy real plants almost always look a lot nicer than fake ones are are also benificial in providing food for the fish as well as absorbing nitrates & metals from the water.

On the other hand, some fish will detroy live plants and make them look messy and untidy. Most live plants will not do well in a tank where the fish do not like bright light.

Fake plants stay looking healthy regardless of the water or light conditions and can be removed for cleaning.

real for me. they can help the nitrates too and they move nicer in the water fake ones look too rigid

Never had fake plants myself so I have to say real ones .

Well, they both have their pros and cons. For example: Real looks better, in my opinion, and can help with nitrates, but fake can be easier to clean. It really depends on the tank and fish.

I prefer Real plants, myself.

I love the idea of real plants for all the reasons above, but I'm going to have to be the only vote for fake because that's what I have. Personally, my spare time is limited and therefore better spent on regular tank cleaning and water changes etc. rather than plant maintenance.

I would also like to add that, fake plants aern't actually suited to all fish, i have heard cases of bettas catching their long finnage and getting trapped on plastic plants.
Also although fake plant technology has moved on greatly over the last few years, it is still very easy to tell a fake plant apart from a real one and i do think fake ones can be a bit of a eyesore in the tank.
