I just got 4 dainos the other day and sometimes I can't tell if they are playing or fighting. They split their time between swimming together, swimming in pairs, and sometimes 1 or 2 of them are alone.

I notice they they seem to be chasing 1 of them in particular. It is hard to be sure it is the same one, but I think that it is. Sometimes it is by itself just sitting there and then one of the other dainos will start chasing it. Then a few minutes later he joins the group again. Then not long later back by himself.

Is this normal daino behavior or are they picking on one of them?

they shoal, theyre not fighting. mine do that as well.

Unless they are nipping and gettiing violent toward this fish, it is pretty normal behaviour for zebras. Just make sure there are plenty of places for the fish to hide if it has to. :)

longfin what?

got a pic?

I had 2 long fin zebra danios and they do exactly as your descrbing... lots of chasing and I can't tell if they are nipping... well its like a few months now and I can say they weren't nipping.. more like playing? I just recently (2 days ago) added a female and all of a sudden its alot more calmer.. with both of the danios slowly swiming along side the female :)

unless theyre nipping (try to watch very closely) then this is normal. danios shoal so its normal for them to play around with each other.

daino2004 - sorry, i believe they are longfin zebra dainos. I will try and get a pic of them. They move fast so it has been hard.

heyimeugene - hopefully it is the same situation with mine. I know that dainos play and chase, but I wasnt sure exactly how they behaved since Im new to fishkeeping.

I will try and post some pics...
