Are My Cichlids Mating?

Two of my cichlids were rapidly chasing each other in a tight circle for a while. I didn't see them biting each other then one was sitting on the side of one facing it for a while. Where they mating or something else?

Mating or fighting - both look pretty much the same. Males rarely fight with females and vice versa - do you know the sex of the 2 fish concerned?
