are hatchetfish manmade?

they seem like they would be, like ballon mollies, but are they? I'm planning on putting some in my 47 gallon, but I don't want any man-made fish.

No, they are not man-made, but you'd better have a tight-fitting lid, and take extra care when opening that lid to feed....they're easily capable of jumping out of any tank
 
You also need to select tankmates very carefully if you have hatchetfish. Many of the small shoaling fish like some of the tetras will nip at hatchets that are motionless at the surface. Active fish below them are also stressful. Floating plants are needed, with some open areas. Soft water...you posted this in livebearers which require moderately hard or harder water.
