I've been reading around on them, cause I've been thinking of getting a bigger gourami for my new 37 gallon (already cycled with mature media) but I've noticed that a lot of sites are saying opaline and three spot (the only larger gourami's readily available in my area) get aggressive as they mature, and I'm trying to avoid aggressive fish

I've noticed a lot of the statements in regards to aggression point fingers at male gouramis, though

So I'm wondering, are the females not aggressive? Or will the show similar behavior?

Thanks much <3

A friend of mine said they are nice but one male of his was a bit mean to another so mane go for girls

You should be able to add at least (2) female Opaline, Blue, Gold, Three Spot, etc. depending of course, on what else you want to add to that tank. I wouldn't add any males unless you add at very least 2 females per male. I've been told it would be even better with 3 or 4.

For that size tank you should be able to put a single male with 3 or 4 females if you make it a Gourami species specific tank with maybe a bristle nose Pleco or 4 to 6 Otocinclus Catfish.
