any one know what type it is??
also male/female
not seen it spit yet but got it to jump out of the tank and get its food off a piece of string

I am not good at identifying archers, but I guess it is Toxotes chatareus. You might want to post this in the brackish section as Archers are a brackish water fish and wont live long in a freshwater aquarium like yours.
 
Yep, it won't live long in freshwater. Not to mention the fact that they prefer more of their own kind to hang around with too.

From the intermediate half stripes and lack of blotches on the rear flank i would say it is most likely Toxotes jaculatrix

While this is certainly true in the wild, a number of reports in tanks seem ti indicate that as they grow, the tank is not large enough to support multiple territories and having a single specemin could be better as larger, though this is only on reports so should not be read as gospel.
