Last resort guys. I've had a fish that has been ill for some time, getting worse and worse. Originally unable to swim properly but whirled itself to either the top or the bottom of the tank. Now it cant swim propery, still whirls arround but has an arched back, so much so her tails level with her head. Chemistry's fine, one noteable thing is that she had a batch of 11 offspring arround the time she got ill, and about a month before that another 6. She is still eating, although I have to put flake and her in a net so she doesn't have to swim for it.

Any ideas before I get her to meet her maker? ????

Thanks

Greg

I would end her mistery if I was you.
whirling can mean the fish is dying and brain damage to internal parasites.
Do you mean the fish has a bent spine as it can mean old age, vitamin deficiency, fish tb, internal parasites.
Lost any fish due to looking skinny or sunken in bellys.
Any fish producing long stringy white poo, or clear mucas poo.

i think it is time to euthanise her - set yourself a target if she isnt any better in say 5 days then do it , this way you dont just keep the fish hanging around when it seems to be suffering

Thanks Sarahx

Thanks for the help, yes she has a bent spine and is getting on. Probably 2/3 years old. All other fish are fine and nothing un useual so think your right to put her out of her misery. Not looking forward to that.

Thanks for the post.

I think your right, poor thing. Oh well

Thanks for the advice.

Bless her.
Once fish start to whirl they never seem to make it.
I would put it down to old age but keep a look out for signs of internal parasites and fish tb just to be on the safe side.
