Just wondered if anyone knew anything about the new luminaire from Arcadia.
i.e.spec, date of sale, price?

looking at getting a luminaire for my 5 footer, but have been told that the current aradia luminaire is being phased out, so wanna find out about the new one, but can only find the small article from PFK magazine.

Also anyone know about the Blau luminaire as they seem the only alternative?

Cheers

Rob

Not true, try having a look on EQJ Trading on ebay, they do all different size of luminaire, and they are a fair bit cheaper. I have one from them over my 180l planted.

mmm yeah i had a look at EQJ, but they only seem to have one for a 5 foot tank which has 8 x 35 watt bulbs, and there doesn't seem to be any brackets for putting it above the tank, only suspension cables.
i really need to go down the bracket route (rented accomodation you see, landlord might not like me putting holes in the ceiling!)

am currently looking at the Blau Lumina 152cm 6 x 80w T5 Luminaire.
quite a bit more expensive but alot more light output and they do brackets.

any thoughts?

also does anyone know what kind of output the Arcadia LED ones are gonna give?

I was looking at the Blau Lumina versions and they do look the bee's and ee's. However, heard a few different stories from people about the stores you could order from in the UK. So was unsure about getting them delivered, might of been prepared to collect one from their stores.

I turned to the current Arcadia system for my Juwel Vision 180 and ordered the 90cm 4x39w with white tubes. Mainly as you can get a discount on the price as the OT2s are coming along. I figured out that the OT2 would probably at least the same price and would do the same job.

if i were you, i would get the old luminaire from arcadia. I ahve one on my marine tank and its great! The only difference with this new one is it can have 2 extra tubes and its got a different cooling system (which i think is totally wierd). With a planted tank do you really need 6 t5 ho tubes? If you getting a 5 fot one, that would mean you would have about 320 watts of lighting with the old luminaire. That surely is enough?

The only bonus of having 6 tubes would be that you could use those "extra two" for like night lights.

I took delivery on my "older version", pics below. As I said above it'll do the same job as the newer ones and it looks snazzy as it is!

How about holes in the walls? So long as it's an outside wall (inside walls are more likely to be soft plasterboard) you could mount a shelf above your aquarium (use the strongest brackets naturally) and then hang the luminaire from this. EQJ however do usually sell brackets that you can attach as well, my 100 cm luminaire came with a pair of plastic ones though.

Sorry, but I really do hate the stupidly high prices that you have to pay for brands like Arcadia, I have seen them and they aren't that much better to justify such high price tags.

cheers for the replies

i originally looked at getting the old style luminaire from arcadia, but have really struggled to get hold of one because they are no longer supplying them to shops, this is why i am looking at the alternatives,

however

the washing machine died yesterday so funds have to go towards that rather than a new toy!

not pleased!!

by the time i've got the disposable cash again, the OT2 might be out so i'll have a proper look at it (still love the look of the Blau though!!)
