My filter is starting to trickle water now so i thought it would be time to change the filter in my tank. The aquatech has 2 filters 1 bio and 1 carbon, im just changing the carbon filter, would that hurt my cycle in any way?

I would not change it. Try doing a water change and use the waste water to rinse out the sponges thoroughly. I think you will find that the flow picks right back up and you will have done very little damage to the biological filter in the process. JUst a few squeezes should be enough to make the flow pick right back up again.

Have you had a look at the impeller and the well that it sits in? It is vital that the well and the ceramic magnet of the impeller be kept almost spotless. When I take my filter apart, I carefully scrub the impeller magnet and clean the well with a small diameter bottle brush. It takes very little to stop the impeller completely in one of these small filters that we use. Even a large canister filter has very tight clearances around the impeller.

its a power filter, im not sure i can take it off with out damaging it.

Most HOB type power filters have the impeller located under the inlet tube. You lift the inlet tube straight up and the impeller is exposed. I am not familiar with your particular brand so I have no idea if it is built the same way.
