I'm going to stick to low light plants, I want to bulk everything out....maybe with mosses or grasses if anyone has any good suggestions that like low light.

Also I will need to swap my substrate for something with plant nutrients in it, and a covering layer I plan of black gravel or glass substrate.

What are the kinds of plant substrates I need to look for?

Also if anyone has any good websites or journals for aquascaping that would be much appreciated, I've been looking at iwagumi stuff, (though I want to keep my bogwood as a feature...not just rock)....and zen aquascaping, I'm in no rush to do this, I need to build up the money and equipment first anyway, so any suggestions and tips are helpful!!!!

Thanks!! :good:

If you can find it still I posted a massive thread of takisi amano aqua scapes on this forum.
aquatic eden are good did you try it?

tropica substrate and Akadama would most likely give you amazing results for what ever you plant in it.

I know your running a 60x30x30 tank, so Id simply stick in 1 or 2 t5's to give even slow growers some umph.

can you remember the thread name, i couldn't refind it last night :(

thanks on the substrate tip, is it easy to get hold of, or will it be a net jobby?

do you know if there's anywhere with a journal or something about fitting another bulb and how i'd need to set up inside the hood of my tank??

not a clue but I can imagine it wouldn't be difficult at all, a few screws maybe.
Akadama and tropica are both extrememly cost effective, you will need to internet them though I doubt you'll find either locally, maidenhead might have tropica, but it certainly won't unless they snook a bonsai section in ;)
I can't no, ADA Amano aqua scapes?
It'll be in the threads started by me section of the posts though.

ok I'll have a poke for the thread :)

will i need to be looking to swap the white reflector currently fitted, to getting mirrored reflectors aswell?

plantgeek.net's really helpful too thanks for the thumbs up on that the other day.....what was the name of your thread about your mini cube setup the other day, i never saved those links either!

It's still ticking over in the planted tank journals section ;)
Oh yeah definitely, juwels reflectors are awful.
How much money are you wanting to spend? if your budgeting it read up on james c's very good website www.theplantedtank.co.uk he's got a section for cheapskates like me called "on the cheap"
If money is no object look for the d&d razors they're at the end of the range so should be pretty cheap, but being d&d still not cheap.

wicked thanks!!
i thought the reflector was bad....it only pushes light to the front of the tank aswell....which means plants at the back really struggle, no wonder i've lost so many back there!!!
ummm...well i can't spend loads...it depends what kind of job i get next really....i'd be willing to save up for certain bits and pieces if needs be, maybe in 3-4 months time actually doing it all.

thanks for that link i've book marked it :) :good:

If your willing to do it right and be patient the posibilities are endless, get a good set of lights a large filter pressurised co2 and a good substrate and you'll never fail provided you plant heavy and never skimp on co2 and ferts.
That seems to georges philosophy and look at his tanks.

anytime, CAU are good, but they use some things I would dismiss as superfluous.
