Hi guys

I am new to this forum so bare with me.

I am running 2 tanks 1x 150l and 1x 650l,i am having problems with my small tank as the water keeps on turning a brown yellowish colour.

I do my regular weekly maintenance like 25-30 % WC and i only cleane 50% of the substrate every other week.

I am running the standard boyu overhead filter wich circulates 740LPH and i have a Dolphin F-1200 internal filter that also circulates 750LPH.

I have the following fish in tank,
3x Medium Angels
1x Small Rainbow shark
2x Small Clown loaches
1x Small African knife fish
1x Small Tiger Oscar
1x Small Common Pleco.

I have NO live plants and i have already removed the piece of driftwood for 2 weeks and water still goes yellowish about 2-3 days after PWC and the tank has been running for 6 months and the last 3 months i had this problem.

Can someone please give me some advice.

Thanks

Hugo

What's your substrate? What do you feed the fish? What are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate looking like?

Also, none of those fish except maybe the Angels are good for this tank. Most of those fish are poo machines. And I'm also surprised that some of these fish haven't killed each other yet.

You should also consider adding the wood to the tank again as the pleco really needs to rasp on it.

Sounds like it could be an algae problem. How long do you keep the tank lights on? Is the tank in front of a window, getting direct sunshine?

Plus one on the selection of fish. Please research their requirements. Even if they are small right now, they need their suggested minimal tank space to grow. Compatibility is also a very important factor to consider. Injuries and death are very possible. Also, injuries are portals to infections and infections can be costly and difficult to treat.

I used to have this problem and I found live plants take away enough netrients away to stop the algae only issues now are the plants are too big and need gardening regular to keep the space open for the fishes.

If I am reading right the fish listed are all in a 150L and that tank is way way way too small for the following fish on the list. Here is the size these fish will reach and suggest tank size

1x Small Rainbow shark-  6 inches and 5 foot tank.
2x Small Clown loaches- well over 12 inches and at least a 6 foot tank. Should b kept in number of 5 or more.
1x Small African knife fish- 9 to 12 inches and one can be kept in a 200 litre tank for life. This fish will try to eat anything that can fit in it mouth.
1x Small Tiger Oscar- 12 inches can have one young in 55 gals and it will need 125 gals as a single adult, They will trash plants and dig and are messy fish.
1x Small Common Pleco- At least a foot and depending on which type much larger. A poop machine.

As for the fish killing each other, be patient they need to get a bit bigger/older and it will happen

I have given a brief bit of info on the above and it gets worse with age.

Your can find good information of all your fish at the following sites: Seriously Fish, Badman's and Mongabay.
