I am about to buy an aquarium stand for my 10 gallon tank. I need some advice on which ones are the best. I'm on a budget and I saw that Walmart and Meijer have those black iron ones for about $25. Has anyone else purchase aquarium stands from these stores and how well made are they? Also I know that a lot of people use regular furniture as stands for their aquariums. What other inexpensive thing could I buy to put my aquarium on? ????

A counter top, a stand, a bar (wooden bar for drinking at), a sturdy table, a night stand. There are numerous places where a small, 10gallon tank could go. I'd suggest getting one of those rod-iron stands. I've looked in to making my own stand before, it costs around $30-50, depending on what type of material you use.

Hope this helps

Hi barb-e :)

I use a number of plastic milk crates as stands for 10 gallon tanks. This is the kind you see outside of 7-11s and delis, that milk gets delivered in. I drape a piece of plastic shower curtain over them and it works out well. If you don't mind having a low stand, it will get you through.

Some of the black iron stands are very good. I keep my bigger tanks on them. These are solid and sturdy. I don't know what kind you have seen, but it would be best to avoid them if they come apart or fold up.

Here is a picture of one of mine:

The picture of the one you have looks like the ones i've seen. I have the tank on a really low table right now. I don't know. I may keep the tank there or go ahead and spend the money on a stand. Thanks.

Nice catfish, though I think it exceeds the inch per gallon guideline!

A sturdy nightstand or dresser will easily hold a 10 gallon, I had a 10 on a drop leaf table for many years. Garage sales or craigslist are good places to find small sturdy items, or even larger sturdy ones.

Milk crates will easily hold a 10 gallon, I have a night stand that is solid enough to hold a 20, which I do on occasion for quar.

I had my first 10gal on an old tv stand. My current 10gal is on top of my dresser. Correct me if I'm wrong but you really don't need an actual 'Aquarium Stand' for anything just 10 gallons.

Hi Hollymolly4 :)

An "aquarium stand" can be whatever you set your aquarium on, even if it is a lowly milk crate. The important things for any tank is that it be level and that whatever it is on is able to support it's weight.

Nice catfish, though I think it exceeds the inch per gallon guideline!

Hi Tolak ;)

That's my cat, Pandora. She loves tanks, both empty or occupied, and even drinks all her water from them, but she's never hurt a fish.

I have a balck iron one, and it is 30 year's old, and still work's. I also have a oak 20g flat hex stand, it is nice also.
