Aquarium Stand

I was given a 55 gallon tank without a stand, this past Sunday 8/5/07. I set up the tank on a very stable and strong 3 foot long desk, the desk width is wide enough, but the Fish tank is 4 feet long.(ONE FOOT LONGER THAN THE DESK) 6 inches stick out on each end. My question: is there any stress placed on the tank overall since each end ( 6 inches ) just floats in the air?

i've always read that it's best to have the bottom completely resting on something. I would suggest cuttind a piece of wood the same size of the tank and placing it on the table.

Thank you for the suggestion, I wasn't really sure if the way I have set up would work, but I've decided to invest into an actual tank stand. I was just trying to say some noney.

i have noney issues too, my stands are all built out of scrap wood
