Aquarium Salt

I have heard you are supposed to add salt to an aquarium. Is this special aquarium salt or just regular salt Oh and I will be starting my very first aquarium as soon as I have picked the right fish that will get along with my batta and aquarium equipment so any tips would be very much appreciated.

I have been researching and im thinking about 3 tetras, 3 moons and my male betta (who by the way has never been in an aquarium with any other fish). Approxemantly what size aquarium would I need if i add a couple bottom feeders to that community???

ONLY aquarium salt..table salt is only for us and it's not the best for us either lol
I'm new too so I really can't answer you're questions...don't want to tell you something and have it wrong. But I do know someone will come along who know's what they are doing

I've been told that you may also use rock salt, but NOTHING that is iodized (ie: table salt).

This comes from my sister who has her own aquaria, and works with the tanks at Petsmart. They haven't kicked any fish off, but I'd stick with aquarium salt unless one of our experts agrees.

Not True!!
Some fish suh as mollies appreciate a small amount of aquarium salt being aded to the tank, but you wouldn't need to add any if you get the fish you listed there.

Okay, thanks for the help!!! I have a couple more questions for you all. . .sorry I just haveto get the aquarium right, I dont want any fish to die or get injured becasue of me. Remember I'm getting 3 tetras, 3 moons, male betta and some bottom feeders.
1.Is there anything extra that I should add to my future aquarium other than:
A Filter. . .Some Plants. . .A Light And A Variety Of Fish Foods.
2. Will I need pebbles for the bottom??
3. What kind of bottom feeders do you recommend??
4. Can you recommend a size for the aquarium with the fish I'm getting??

Sorry for all the questions but as you can see, I am very new to this!!

What size tank are you getting? You should get the largest tank you can afford. Small tanks are more difficult to maintain, larger ones are more tolerant of beginners mistakes. You also need a water heater to keep the temperature steady. You need some sort of gravel if you're going to have plants - other wise what will you plant them in? IMO it should be at least 1-1.5 inches thick so that the plants can take root. Personally, I like corys as bottom feeders. They're friendly, cute and great cleaner uppers. They like to be in a small shoal of their own kind, about 4 minimum. Keep us posted and good luck with the new tank

Alright, Thanks For The Advice Everyone!!! I Am Thinking Of A 15-20 Gallon Aquarium, Is That To Small???

ok i find that if i ad gravel to the tank it locks in nasty germs and fish poo and can carry disease so i just stock up on large rocks about 6 if your getting a 15 gal and plants and with no rocks it is easier for the fish to eat all there food off the floor and not leave it to rot and it is also easeier to vaccume when theres no gravel so you will have a cleaner tank.
