I have a 20g community tank. I dont have any live plants but I was looking to change my flourescent light bulb to a different kind. One that will show off the colors of the fish and the greenery of the (fake) plants. I've noticed the white flourescent gives a glare on the water, I hate that. Can someone tell me about some bulbs that I can change to? And maybe where I can get them. Thanks

I'm checking it out right now...just curious, will the Sun Glo lights promote algae?

I find when you have fake plants having a good bulb helps to prevent algae. Having a 10,000K or actnic bulb really helps. I've had a 50/50 and 10,000 K bulb and I've had no algae since.

What brand and name of bulb do you have?

Actually any bulb will help algae gro..the best algae fighter is darkness so if you have fake plants you can limit your lighting to only when your viewing the tank. The fish could care less the light is for us not them. when buying a light look for the K rating it will help with the colour of the light. lights with a low K rating 1000-4000 will appear yellow while 5000-7000 are white ( like the sun at noon ) 7000 - 10000 will enter into the blue spectrum and will add some colour to your fish and scenery..

good luck !!

Hands down the best bulb for making fish colors pop, for being great for plants and for lasting a long time are the Tritons. The one drawback is the price.
