What size aquarium what you recommended for a first timer? I need feedback on the types of fish that I'm interested in. I wish to own Livebearers: Fancy Guppies, Platties, Neon Tetras, Cardinal Tetras, and a Molly. Do you think the Molly (Black Lyretail) would get to big and eat the others? Would they be compatible together? I was told that they require a bit of salt, is this true? How many of each is recommended? I'm a little confused and I'm also concerned for their well being. Also what other things besides gravel and ceramic decorations would you suggest. Any advice would be appreciated.

well.... you could get away with all them in a 10 gallon... but you could have like......

1 black lyretail molly
3 guppies
2 neons
2 cardinals
3 platties

and thats probably all.... still be kinda crowded but its do-able if your willing to do water changes every 4-5 days ......

take a look in the aquarium photos pages... lots of diff setups there... dont ask me im rlly bad at making tanks like nice

Neons and Cardinals are shoaling so you could get 4-5 of each. If you want to breed the livebearers (Mollies,Guppies and Platties) get 1 male to every 2 females.

Neons-5
Cardinals-5
Mollies-1m 2f
Guppies-2m 4f
Platties-1m 2f

I would advise you to get a 15g-20g for these fish depending on the amount of each fish you want (if you want a smaller tank you could shorten the fish list and get a 10g). The Mollies can live with salt in their water but are equally adpat without it and as the other fish will prefer no salt in the water I woul advise you not to add any. They will lie peacefully together and you have no worries about them eating each other. As for the tank, you will need-

Tank
Heater
Filter
Substrate
Decorations
Dechlrinater
Water! and Food!

Good Luck

I'd advise to pick between cardinals and neons - if you have more of one type, rather than half and hlaf, I think they'd be happier :)

I'd get a 20 gal, if I were you.

Also, I don't think mollies need salt - it's optional.

And IMO every community tank needs to have some cories (a kind of small catfish). There are loads of different types and they're all really sweet and active. You should have 3 of them at least, they'll be happier :D *If you got cories, you definitely couldn't use salt for mollies  *

A bronze cory...
