HI all

I got a question about these aquarium dividers. I'm going to be buying one for my 20gal so i can make a small divide for my fry. I was wondering how would the vacuum for cleaning the gravil.. be able to clean it since it needs to be shaken a bit to get the spyphon to start up. The amount of space i'll be using for the fry will be about 6 inches or so. How can i spyphon in the small space??? or clean the gravil/poop there?

thx!

Hi m8, when cleaning the small section, take the gravel vac part off so you just got the tube, start the siphoning by sucking on the end, use a net at the end out of the tank ready to catch any fry that might get sucked up (it wont hurt them)

with the end in the tank, gently disturb the gravel while siphoning at will clean it enough has fry dont produce nowhere near as much waste as adults :)

Hope that helps.

Hey 5teady

Thanks for responding finally someone haha. I was thinking of not putting in any gravel at all now and just place decorations like that, as the movement from the filter should clear the poop out nicely. thanks again!

:D

In the fry section m8, u dont really need gravel, the waste they produce is very little so you will get away with not using gravel in that part..

To clean that section simply just use a little air pump tube to seep the bottom so its nice and clean (you will only need to do it about every month)

The main tank filter will keep the water clean enough as it will be getting through in to the part anyways..

You are using a net type of seperator aint ya?

Put a couple of snails in tere to clean up or summat :)

i'll be using a divider like this one..

It's a thin sheet of plastic with tons of holes.

okay i got the divider in, man what a pain in the butt to fit the sides it right, or else it's not tight enough and fish will swim through. i had my cardinals swim right in after attempting 4 times to fit it in LMAO!

i will leave it overnight just with fry in breeder in case.. you never know if something will go through again.

cheers!

A turkey baster is a great thing. you can suck up the bad stuff and dump it in a bowl to check for fry. That is the only thing I use to clean in areas with fry. You can control how much you suck up and how fast you do it. It also takes no effort to start. (just squeeze)
Just another option. It does work well when you are working with a small space. (for me any way)
Hope that helps a little.

thanks ICEGIRL, that is a great idea! I will give it a try :D
