It's only April, it's too hot in Cyprus and the temperature in my tanks (especialy the 5g) is reaching 30C (86F). I've already switched off the heaters. Any ideas on how to keep the temperature in proper levels especialy in the summer when the temperature here is abour 40C !

The more expensive answer is to buy a tank "chiller" unit. It sits below or behind the tank and water is pumped through it and cools the water. Big downside is they are expensive.

If money is a concern, you could take an old bar fridge (the mini compacts), and create a DIY chiller. Drill holes in the sides, coil tubing in it and attach a pump. Seal holes with foam insulation and you are all set.

Best of luck,
Asaint

You could try putting the tank next to a fan set on oscolatting (spelling?) mode. Or bring a fan to the tank.

The temperatures here in Singapore are pretty stable, rarely going below 24C, and rarely above 35C. Average temperature is about 30C here, and my tanks are usually at around 28C.

Thank you all so much guys. I’ll see about the price of the tank "chiller" unit and if too expensive I’ll try one of the other solutions. Since I’ve started with this hobby I’ve spent hundreds and I’ve become an electrician, a plumber, a vet but it’s worth every bit. :look:

this might not be worth the effort or be reliable enough to keep up dailly but the cheapest thing to do would be freeze a watter bottle and float it in you tank

If you have money to burn, you can always buy an aquarium chiller... the cheapest would cost you ~ $300.

I couldn't afford to buy a Chiller.... so, I bought an Aquatek Aquarium Cooling Fan from Aqua eWorld on eBay. This fan has been a BLESSING to my tank during the hot summer months!! Even though i have a canope, the air flow from the fan drives out the hot air accumulated inside. The little clips on the fan snaps onto the aquarium wall very easily.

It dropped the temperature of my tank in hours and saved me $300!!! (and save energy cost too!)

you can give it a try. Good Luck!

Chillers are very expensive, for example the cheapest model at Dr. Smith and Fosters' is $350. They are usually used in large aquarium, over 100 gallons. They also use an ungodly amount of energy, your electric bill will be sky high.
