are you talking about aquarium salt? if so, most tropical freshwater fish are ok without salt. some actually can't tolerate too much salt. what fish are you using it for?

1 Mango plec
1 Royal plec
1 Talking Cat Fish (Eats some of the snails we never see him)
well they all look a little under par i have done water change and lots of people say to add some salt as a tonic? :good: :good: ????????

There isnt a single fish there that would benefit from salt and several that will deffinately not appreciate having extra salt added to their water, to the point where it would be detrimental to their health if you did add salt. All those fish are naturally found in soft acidic water with very low mineral and salt content.

Have you done any water tests recently and if so what were the results ? Fish usually go a little off colour if the water parameters are off, a few partial water changes at 10% each evening for a couple of days will usually perk up listless lethargic fish.

ok no salt then!

I have rehomed some silver barla shark, angel, some tetras!!! i am thinking about rehoming the Goramis because they hide most of the time anyway!!!

so keep the water changes up and there colour and the tips of the fins should be back to normal without meds???

Will rehoming those fish be enought as they are the biggest?

i have only the dip stick tests im gonna do one now!

As you can see I have crossed out everyhting that you shouldnt be keeping in a 2ft tank.

The tank sounds quite overstocked, i agree with mark about what fish are unsuitable for it although the blue and yellow gourami's may be ok for the tank but just not in such large numbers (you should also be very wary about such fish since the males can become quite agressive, IMHO it would be best to just have one blue or yellow gourami).

Anyhoo, as others have said adding salt is not a good idea and it is likely only to have a negative effect on your fishes long term health. You should buy some accurate test kits from your lfs for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph and test the tank for these stats, since tanks which are overstocked are more likely to suffer from water quality problems and the only way to really know what is going on with your water quality is to test it yourself (and its important to know the water quality of your tank since it can greatly effect the health, looks and behavior of your fish) .

How often do you do water changes and how much water do you take out on average and do you use dechlorinator?

Hi i do a 25-35 % water change every week!

I am now having to wait till after xmas and they will all be moving to a 4ft tank so it will have more room as i really do not want to rehome all the best fish in my tank if there is any one who is in the maldon essex area who would like my Goramis then please pm me i have taken on board what you have all said so i will be doing some thing about the corner tank asap!!!!!!
