About a week ago my aunt and I went out to get a light for my aquarium as she wanted to buy something for me for it. So she got this aquaglow 18000k light. It said good for platns and all this stuff. 18000k sounded high but I figured itd be good to grow plants. The more i look around on different forums and topics they're saying not to get that. Why exactly cant i have a 18000k light?

Hagen's claim that their Aqua-Glo is 18000K is rubbish IMO. 18000K would give a very blue light, the sort you'd find in marine tubes that simulate deep water. I would say they are more between 8000 and 9000K.

The main problem with these tubes is their lack of intensity. They are designed on the same principles as the Glo-Lux series that has been around since the 70s.

To increase you chances of success I would buy a full-spectrum tube and fit a decent reflector. Read my lighting article to find out more.

It is worth noting that generally your plant choice is very limited if you just have the one tube - no matter how good or bad it is.

gotcha, ya i read the pinned article that u guys are telling me about but i just wnated to know the reason the 18000k wasnt worth it, hehe go tmy answer now thanks :)
