I have a HOB Aquaclear filter that use the 3 seperate stacked filtering material(Sponge on the bottom, Charcoal in the Middle, Ceramics on top). Since I had that bad water issue last week, I removed my ceramics and put in a Ammonia remover pack.I have my ceramics sitting in a plastic bowl with tank water to keep whatever bacteria moist. But now I want to remove the Ammonia remover pack and put the ceramics back in. What do I do with the Ammonia remover pack, is it still good to save and how do I save it? Freeze it? Just let it dry out, will it work again if I need to use it again.

Please help.

Thanks Everyone.

Take the carbon out, take the ammonia out. Don't use it again. Only use carbon if you use meds and need to get the meds out of the tank after the round of treatment is over. You should never remove the ceramic bio rings,(unless medicating). In place of the carbon insert, add another sponge. So if your looking from the top of the filter, the order of media will be this: Ceramic bio-rings, sponge, sponge. Trust me, I've used Aqua Clear for 15+ years and that set up has shown the best result for me. To deal with ammonia in the future, just do big water changes. But, if you're doing weekly water change/gravel vac, you should never have a problem with ammonia ever again.
