Aquaclear 110 Extension Tube Confusion

i just ordered an aquaclear 110 for my 75g. i have read the manual and it mentions it comes with 2 intake tubes. it also said the tubes are 6" long but they connect together.........does this mean that the stock setup will only reach 12" into the tank. am i reading this correctly? i know you can buy the extension tubes but 12" for a filter designed for large tanks doesnt seem right.
i am used to using emperor filters where they give you more intake tube than i have ever used.
can someone enlighten me?
