Hi

I have the exact same setup, and have replied to your other post. In answer to you question, its up to you as long as you have the required amount of LR.

I have made a few mods to mine since I got it, including adding an external filter (no bio media, just rowaphos and sponges) and most recently an 8 gallon sump. To fit this I added a drilled glass plate to the rear wall (glued in place with aquarium sealent), where the skimmer should hang and piped water to the sump from here. The water is returned by the ehiem and the sump now holds the skimmer and heater. The aqua medic 1000 filter acts as a power head in the main tank along with an ehiem PH and both are fitted with rotating flow attachments made by hydor.

hey thanks again :p at the minute i have 2 powerheads and 10kg of live rock in the tank. I will get more rock but i didnt want to get too much because i was not sure how much i would actually need.

Have a look here...

My tank

I am really pleased with it, but could have layed it out better at the start, now its teaming with life from the LR I don't want to disturb the layout.

Yes thats good, anything over 0 is bad. Amonia and nitrIte should be 0, nitrAte should be as close to 0 as possible, using RO water for your salt mix and topups, and regular water changes should keep your nitrAtes down. Don't forget to also keep an eye on your PH and SG readings, keep them stable within the ranges:

8.0 - 8.4 for PH
1.020 - 1.026 for SG

Jon

PH is your alkalinity - above 7 is alkaline, below 7 is acid. It is important that it remains constant as a reading of 9 is 10 times more alkaline than 8!!!!
