As you may be aware I have an Eagle Aquatic HW-304 running as part of the set up on my Rio 400 tank which has almost finished cycling.
Well I thought I would share my experience with it, when I first set it up the flow did not look that great and it was a bit noisy. I had picked up a new power block today to give me some extra plugs for lights etc as I will need to start using these fairly soon. As I had the filter unplugged I decided to open it up and give it a quick once over.
Opened it up and what did I find, the source of the noise and some of the reduced flow! The cover on the impellor housing was not fully closed. It was only when I took this off that I could see a couple of slots on the housing that the tabs of the cover fitted into, when I first set it up it looked closed due to the recesses for positioning the cover, but it was not locked.
Well now properly closed and its running almost silent and flow is a lot better!
Other points of note, the input tube needs to be submerged to above the top join as they are not airtight and if above the waterline it will suck water into the canister. On the return side, the joins are a bit weak and one has cracked, and I am sure the spray bar is losing some efficiency from it, but it's not too bad, I will seal it up when it finishes cycling, but you can see the bubbles escaping from it when priming the filter.
