i just got a couple of these for my 20long setup
and was just looking for some pointers on them.
like what would lead to a successful spawning and such

PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They need alot of caves, they need alot of either real or plastic plants ( for cover), they need a good diet, warm water, and plenty or watere changes. Other than that, just sit and chilax, and wait for them to breed.

I will when i get a better camera
for now the only one is my 3megapixel ion my phone, and personally, the pictures suck

=/

but ill see if they'll come out for a photo op

and besides that, am i going to be able to wean them on to flake food?
I tried to give them some earlier to ease the transition into a new tank
but i dont think they ate any. All i saw was the male suck some flakes in and spit em out.

you can wean them onto flakes if you like, but if you are wanting to breed then you should give frozen blood worms and brine shrimp. what is the male to female ratio? i think i have read somewhere that males have a polygamist relationship, but i may be wrong. i do know that they need acidic pH and soft water. but like krib said keep them water temp warm around 80-82 fahrenheit and do lots of water changes also add frozen blood worms and brine shrimp to their diet a long with a small pellet as the staple. good luck, viejitas are beautiful fish.

Ok so my mom's boyfriend had a camera!

they need names!

Im thinking George and Ursula?

btw
i didnt time travel...the time stamp is just wrong
:D

lol, i was just thinking that the time stamp was wrong!!!!!!!!! Hmm, truley beautiful fish! I am a little concerned about teh "Male"? Its the first pic. His stomach seems to have hte slightest of a indentation. I am a little worried that it may be some form of parasite ( or it could be me being a hypocondriache).

As jb said, feed on frozen bloodworms or shrimp. Bloodworms always get my apisto's in the mood. The female should go yellow when they are in the spawning mood. Soft water would be prefered but you could be fine without it. Also if you could get a better pic of the one you think is a female...I'm not convinced by that pic that it is a female...

hmm, i dunno krib,
seeing as how he didnt eat any of the flakes i gave him, he might just not have eaten since he was shipped from south florida, wich is where i believe Petland gets their fish

BUT

i will keep my eye out, are there any other symptoms?

AND i went and bought some frozen bloodworms, and everybody was happy and fat afterwards
even Ricky martin my driftwood catfish, that i forgot i had in that tank.

Interesting note: i believe these guys eat snails. at least ramshonrs. I had at least 5 adult ramshorns cruising around my tank and since i put the vijieta in, i've found 3 empty shells...
