aponogeton bulbs

This is what they do to the surface of your aquarium, if you don't mind them blocking the light then they are a good plant. Grow very easily.

what does it look like inside the tank?
And I'm wondering how many bulbs are in the tank and what are your watts per gallon, and how long have they been in your tank, Auratus? :dunno:

I have some in 2 of my 10g and mine seem to be growing more inside the tank, but they have also only been in for a few monthes. I have 3 watts per gallon in each tank.

The lilly bulbs REALLY block the light, but look nice when they are small, IMO.

I had 2 of the aponogeton bulbs that didn't sprout and I sent them back to the company. They sent me 4 aponogeton bulbs and 4 lilly bulbs.

I think think they are definatly worth the money.

Auratus, you are a frequent Walmart shopper, no? I see the filter and the plants are from Walmart, as is probably the tank. :D

They do grow to the surface of the tank. Mine have grown to the top in a 2' deep tank. Mine have all been picked apart, though. Probably the gouramis or the skirts. :grr:

Regardless, they are very hardy and are reasonably cheap. So far, about 50% of my bulbs have actually sprouted, so you are getting about a plant per dollar. :dunno:

If you cut back the long ones more under water leaves will grow. I have been using them since some time in the 90's and always had good luck with them. Just keep everything that grows long trimed off. They are real good if you have plant eating fish or algae problems. They are very hard to kill but if it does for some reason die. Take it out of tank let it dry and place in fridge for about a month then plant again. Also grow better if you plant sideways not up and down.

On a side note this company is a very good company I have been to there green house and while I was there they gave me about 30 free bulbs to grow in ponds. So if you can ever tour there green houses it can be worth it.

i have two bulbs in a 2.5 gallon tank. theyre barely sprouting, but i dont want them overpowering the tank. i can just trim them when they get too big right?
The short answer is yes. I do it too.

Three packets or bulbs? (I'm guessing the latter).

They'll sprout in another day or so. Full growth is at about 20 days-ish.

3 bulbs, i just droped them in different locations, do I need to do anything to them once they are growing?
Is it okay to have a mixture of fake and live plant?

Yes. The plastic plants will have no effect on your water chemistry etc., they just occupy space. This is fine, it give hiding places and whatever, and does not require specialised lighting.

The real ones, as long as they are growing, will make it better in your tank. They use nitrogen from the water, nitrates if there is nothing else. Planted tanks require a bit more effort and thinking though. A well established and balanced planted tank needs very little maintenance.
