Hi,

I have read some where that the Apisto's are really only violent towards there own kind. Would they be suitable for placing in with discus? I would have a few angels in there too with corys.

Cheers

Craig

What would be the stocking levels of each? and in what size tank?

IMO provided tank size is fine, it would be ok to add a few apisto's. i would stick to maybe 3 at most (1M 2F) simply due to the likelihood of aggresion seems to increase in tanks with larger numbers

Apistos are perfectly fine with Discus, ive seen a number of tanks with the 2 species. You could also look at a shoal of dither fish.

The tank is about 57G. It will have a few angels and my discus. I have 3 khulis, 2 bronze cory, 1 pepper, 2 albino and have 2 L183 plecs. My angels are small and should cause no bother but if they do they will be going. am more worried about the apistos and the corys getting along now.

do they mix well with the ground dwelling fish?

Thanks for your help chaps and chapettes

Apistos and Discus are fine together, most require soft water but hopefully you already have that as your keeping Discus.

Personally I would not keep Angels and Discus together, in my experience Angels are more aggressive and quicker feeders and things just don't work out. Especially so if the Angels are in the tank first, in larger tanks it can work but I don't think yours is suitable.

Not sure about the Khulis, but the Corys you have prefer cooler temperatures than Discus require. You'll be drastically shortening their lifespan by keeping them in a Discus tank.

The plecos should be ok, but you'll need to watch to see if they latch onto the sides of the Discus, unlikely with smaller plecos but it can happen...

You should be keeping a group of 4-5 Discus minimum, and the general rule is one Discus per 10g so that doesn't leave you much stocking room left, but the Plecos and Corys (which I'd replace with more suitable ones) should be ok.

I have decided to go for just the 4 discus to give me a little more space for tank mates. that may change later but for now i think thats what i will do. I have removed the filter box on the tank and am changing to the tetratec ex 1200 so tank should be way over filtrated.

Cheers for your help.

Always best to over filter, but it will not replace frequent water changes Discus require. Hope you have plans for rehoming the other tank mates.

i have 2 angel fish with with my discus i put them in there while changing tanks around and they have stayed there. I have no aggression problems but they will barge in and get food first (very greedy eaters) so i have to make sure the discus get enough, not ideal but it can work if the discus are larger and not so shy, just keep your eye on them and be prepared to move them if nesasary.
