Hi

Saw these fish called apistogramma sunsets in a tank at my lfs at the weekend and just wondered if anybody knew anything about them? I guess they are are a type of cichlid? The guy in the fish place knew nothing at all about them... no idea of sexing, sizes, temperament... useless  !!

Also some of the ap' sunsets in the tank had a stripe along the length of the body and some didn't? Is this just a different hybrid or a maturity thing??

Interested to hear if anyone knows anything, they looked pretty cool fish,

Thanks

What's Ram camcattle mean? I guess some cross-breeding type thing? I only ask because they were in the tanks next to the different kinds of Rams....

Cheers

Ram is a Genus of fish, Cometcattle is that guys screenname. (i think.. )

Aspistograms can go in a 20gallon-ish tank (although some breeders have them in 10gals) They should be in a tri 1m/2F. The males have all the color, the females are more bland and easy to spot. No they are not a hybrid, (or dyed ext.) They are New World cichlids Heres a link to some more info CLICK ME

Hi Skipper,

There is a strain of Apistogramma cacatuoides known as 'sunburst' or 'orange flash' which may be the fish you saw, just mislabelled. In any case, all the different colourations are very similar apart from the colour differences, we have a profile for the cacatuoides HERE.
