Ok so recently my apistos bred and i had a batch of fry, alot of them didnt survive, when i got back off my holiday to canada the remaining 5 babies had dissapeared, i think my apisto has laid eggs again the other day, i cant remove the eggs as she has laid them at the back of the tank under a large peice of wood that has plants attached, my question is, once they hatch shall i try and transfer them to another tank? should i transfer the mother as well or will they be ok alone?

I have just set up a 15 gallon tank for them which is bare bottom and had a peice of wood in it with java fern and anubia on it. Im running a heater and a small sponger filter but once i move stuff over i will move a spare filter out of my main tank into that tank so it has a mature filter.

when my apisto's breed and i want to keep any fry i wait until they are free swimming and then i syphon them in to a bucket. i then get a glass and fill it with half water from their tank they where born in and half of the water from the tank they will be raised in. then i use a dropper from an api water test kit that i've cut the thin tip off and suck the fry up one at a time and drop these into the glass, then i tip the lot into the tank for raising. i would leave the parents where they are, their fry will be fine on their own but they will need freshly hatched baby brine shrimp every day. here's some i've bred.

Thanks for the reply, i think the eggs may have hatched but now i believe they have been transferred to in inside of an upturned statue thing so i will probably just try and lift that out and put it into a big jug and then mix it with half the water like you have suggested and then release them into there new tank.
