Hey all!

I have a 20gal (2 foot long) tank that is planted (not heavily, but not lightly). It currently has (a plague lol) of endlers, 4 rummy nose tetras, 4 peppered cories and 5 Harlequin Rasboras.

I have been offered a male/female pair of Apisto Cacs. They haven't paired so I may have to swap the female for another one.

My filtration is currently a APS 2000EF+. Although that is being changed for the free filter that was given away by PFK recently (can't remeber the name atm, but it is more than suitable). I know that my tank is very over filtered, but the smaller external broke and the replacement is taking ages to arrive.

I am going to be moving on a lot of the endlers this weekend to my LFS down to aprx 3 females and 2 males.

Do you think that I can realistically fit the Cacs into my set up, or would it be unsuitable?

Of note is that the rummynose OR the Harlequinns will be joing a much larger group in a little over 2 month when I set up my 250L tank after I move. At that point the remaining shoal will be bolstered by 2/3 more fish.

Cheers for any input :)

Its big enough for cacs, I have mine in with glowlights & rummy nose no worries.

Thank you for the response. Would like a couple more opinions before taking the plunge :good:

I expect they will be fine tbh, one main question I have is whether they are a pair species, or a hareem...

Apistogramma Cacatuoides can be kept in pairs or harems. I have heard reports of females getting bullied when in harems, but I don't have personal experience with harems. The apistogramma will probably eat you Endler fry haha :)However, the corys you have in there will not be tolerated when the apistogramma breed (and trust me, they will!) To avoid this, you could get two males, but they have to be two different species. Hope I helped out a hit ;)

Endler Fry getting eaten is not a bad thing!haha!

Really, the cories a problem? this isn't something have heard elsewhere, would you mind linking some examples or regaling your experiences?

And thanks for the time :good:

During breeding, the female apistogramma will be guarding the eggs and attacks anything that comes near them. Corys are notorious for invading the female's territory and getting torn to shreds. I've never mixed corys and apistogramma because I read many accounts of bad endings before getting my apistogramma. Do a search on the forum.

Lot's and lot's of caves is the ticket. I put in about 2 caves to a female in a 2 male :4 female ratio. Caves!

Hmmm, okay. I will keep that in mind. I have done some digging and there seems to be a 60:40 split online as to how compatable they are with 60% saying they are. I think I will give them a god, but have a spare tank on hand with a net at the ready ffor a while, the cories are able to be moved into my big tank after the move if I'm not happy with it.

Coolio, so I want to add another couple of caves? Just caves, or overhanging wood ok? I'm off to my LFS tomorrow to get some new wood etc in preperation and wil make a trip up to the peaks to get some stone...

Just set up a new T5 light in there which is looking good (gone from <20W T8 to 48W T5 :p ). will rig up the T8 again soon to do a before/after/after after series of pics. My tank is a bloody state atm, got some new plants arriving today/tomorrow, loads of endlers leaving tomorrow.. exciting times!
