I bought a young pair of these dwarf cichlids today, at the moment they're in my community tank, but I thought I might set them up on their own and get some more dwarf cichlids. I've never done cichlids before - can anyone give me any advice? I know they need lots of rocks and caves to claim as territory and hide in, but that's about it!

Thanks!

Sarah

water quality is imperative
nitrates are not tolerated and so more regular water changes are the usual safe way to go with all dwarf's

to get aggies happy and spawning you will need quite soft and preferably acidic water
waht is your tap water like?
do you have any experience with using peat to soften water

what size tank? a pair will need about 2 ft of area to be comfortable

if you are lucky and your tap water suits then you'll hvae fun
if it's harder then cacatoides and borreli and a few oters are probably better starting points for harder water
