I was given a pair of fish, ive had a look on bka website and I think they are 'aphyosemion ahli' has anyone had any experience of these fish.

I was just wondering if they are annuals, bi-annuals or livebearers, and to make sure that I am giving them the best environment to live in. At the moment they are in my community tank, but I have a spare 46 litre, 10 gallon tank they could go in if they would prefer it.

thanks for all info in advance.

All Aphyosemium are annual egg layers. They can breed when a couple of months old and will live for a year or two in captivity. They like soft acid water but will live happily in water with a medium hardness and slightly alkaline PH. Keep the temperature between 24-28C.
A couple of prs would be fine in a 10g tank.

thanks so much for the replys, I know I should of looked into them, but just couldnt find them on the web and there is so many different kinds of killi.

There are also many different sp and spp of gardneri for different geographical locations within Nigeria or just over its borders.
Scan around the Killifish forum I wrote many a husbandry article one these. I'm currently trying to allocate time to get one in the sticky section along with other common questions

thanks a lot, thats what I was wondering, when I said are they annuals, and also one more question, what is a breeding mop and where can I get them, only have livebearers normally,

thanks again for all replys.

Those are my fund gardneri, not sure on exact species and they are annuals.

Breeding mops are basicly nylon wool which you make as though you are going to do a bobble and cut one side and tie it off, then you can float it by attaching it to a pc of polystyrene or cork, this will do instead of the fish spawning on plants, the eggs are slightly sticky and breeders just swap the mops around to collect the eggs for collection.
