I posted in the sfrican form but Im going to the lfs soon so I need advice. If I get a jewel for my 20 long does this limit my options to just another jewel?

Jewels don't make particularly good community fish and honestly should have a little more room than a 20g.

Why are you getting rid of your current community in favor of them?

The danios, I have grown not to like very much, sure their ok, but my ram is the only thing in my tank I have to think about keeping or getting rid of. Thats really why Im asking, Im not sure I want to get a jewel and thats all I can have. I know the jewels arent good community, just alone can any other fish be put into the tank? Or will it just kill anything else but a mate.

Please please please don't get jewel cichlids unless you are REALLY planning on breeding them. Otherwise it is utterly pointless.

They are best suited to large cichlid tanks, maybe with sevs or oscars.

Just remember, shops will market certain random cichlids as "jewel" cichlids because they havent got a clue what they are going on about, thoroughly research the particular cichlid you have seen.

Oh, and 20G long is NOT suitable for them.

If you want to breed a cichlid, rams or kribs would breed in that size tank, but tbh I would stick to your rams, danios and other small community fish.
