Used to have two Plecs in with my Discus but decided to get rid of them because they cause way too much waste, and it had to be bad for my Discus. But since I got rid of them I have a #### load of algae on the glass. Is there anything that eats algae but arent poop machines?

get 3 or 4 ottos, very good at eating algea, i had them with my discus, did just fine.

bristlenose catfish? Mine don't seem to be messy... they only grow to around 5"

Are Ottos not too messy? After doing a gravel vac/water change when I had plecos in the tank a few minutes after there was always crap in the tank, 55 gal covered in plecto crap each day.

Otos are pretty small, and very clean. They grow to about 2.5".

They are notoriously picky about water conditions, though.
They also need a constant supply of food in order to stay alive.
They are shy and like to hide under wood, in caves, or the underside of broad leafed plants.

My otos usually eat algae in the tank, plus I drop in algae tabs for them and they will occasionally munch on the sinking wafers for my cories, so giving them a little protein is a good idea now and then.

Amano shrimp also will eat algae but your discus might also eat them.

Other fish, such as plecs or chinese algae eaters grow to be large, messy and don't eat algae as a primary food source anyway. They might eat algae, but only if they are young or have no other food available.

ive never had any problems with otos in bad water conditions. they seem pretty easy to keep after the first week they are in your tank. they have a bad habit of dying the first few days after you buy them though. this is because they were not properly fed when they were shipped
