my South American Cichlid tank is getting over run with Pothos vine roots, and even though the Silver Dollars will munch on them, the roots had a good start, before stripe got added to that tank, and there are enough of them, that had a head start, they are taking over, with just the one Tiger Silver Dollar, in there... I'm considering adding a few more Silver Dollars, but have heard that an Uaru, is a known destroyer of plants... I have a large anubias Congensis in the tank, that I don't want to disappear, so I'm likely going with a few more Silver Dollars, as I'd have more control, and have tanks I could move them to, if things get out of hand, but curious about the Uaru's

I had a pair of Uaru amphiavanthoides when I was deep into discus. I was able to have Java fern with them, but did not try pothos. Silver dollars like to live in groups, so I would consider that before adding another large species. Also, Uaru like warmer conditions than most silver dollars. Good luck.

Uarus are like discus and evolved from the same ancestor. They like warm water with low mineral content and need lots of plant matter in their diet (so do discus).

If you have an algae or plant problem, don't get Uarus to try and fix it. Just manually remove the plants.

What's your general hardness levels as these are supposed to be quite dependent on very soft water to thrive.

almost no hardness, with full RO water for water changes... I can add back had well water as needed...

I have some tanks, that I use silver dollars as "therapy" fish, they have been hanging by with single Angel Fish
