Anyone Used Tetra Safestart

its ok, from the research ive done these additives will only minimally kickstart a cycle, I suppose theres no harm in using it

Safestart is the only bacterial supplement I will waste my money on, I have used it a few times now and always find it to vastly increase the startup process and also minimise casualties early on.

I would only ever use a bacterial starter with a fishless cycle to try and speed it up. That way if it doesn't work you aren't stuck with a fish-in cycle. Even the products reputed to work don't work for everyone.

Personally Whenever I have set up a tank I have always used some mature media alongside tetra safestart which has allowed me to introduce fish within a few days.

The mature media is the key here but IME the safestart does help

i have used it 3 times. i have never had a spike of ammonia or nitrite whilst using it.

i add it while i float the bag with the first fish in, then add the fish. i test evey other day for the first 2 weeks and always 0 for me. then after a week i add a few more fish and carry on testing. then a week later some more.

it does work a treat.

just make sure you only feed about one flake per fish for the first 2 weeks:) and dont water change for at least 2 weeks

ok will do

Yet i believe most, if not all, of the replys you've had in this thread describe instances when a new filter has been 'seeded' and is able to control the Nitrogen cycle.
Please don't expect it to simply 'grow' the bacteria we need that eat our fish waste, you either need to COMPLETELY finish a full fishless cycle OR use it with a media donation from someone's elses fully mature filter.

Terry.

Please don't use this and then put fish in, as some of the fish will likely die, and then you'll be in a fish in cycle, which isn't good. Do the right thing and do a fishless cycle.:good:
