I inherited my lighting with the tank and the bulbs now need replacing. I currently have 1 compact T5 which is both white & blue and another with is just blue. Is this the best? I'm sure I read that the blue is the important one, but I just wanted to check before I get the credit card out, again.

Thanks

i have 4 t5s 2 blue 2 white i find then putting blue aross the rock at top then both whites at front to give fish its colour

It's commonly the case that 10000K (white) bulbs provide more usable light for the corals, while the 20000k (blue) typically offer the corals colors visually pleasing to aquarists. Really getting into all the details would require an entire article which I dont have time to write ;). Suffice it to say that aquarists usually use bulbs on a 1-1 (white-blue), or sometimes a 1-3 (white-blue) ratio of bulbs.

Thanks both of you - I think I'll try going 1-1 this time then. Just what I needed to know - thanks :good:
