I cannot find any shops thats stock them. Has anyone used say a stocking or something else ?

I use a turkey baster and a coffee filter draped over a cup, simple, cheap and easy.

I use the toe of a stocking when I harvest my baby brine shrimp for my betta fry and it works a treat. I tried a coffee filter but they kept going through :/

the eggs have hatched now but can i leave them in there for a few days more to let them get bigger ? should i turn the air off now? the instructions in the box are extremely vague !

thanks,

Rob

I don't use brine shrimp but I think you should keep the air on and I personaly think you'd get better results if you fed them right away - what are they for? If they are for fry, I'd suggest microworms for future use. They are much easier (not to mention cheaper) to raise/harvest and you don't need to buy eggs each time. There are also fewer risks involved with using them and they last much longer in the tank. If it's for fry, they are also generaly easier for the fry to catch and eat.

i bought them for a learning experience/curiosity and i wanted to give my fish live food though i guess they are too small really. i should have some fry in my breeding tank soon from guppies and i thought the shrimp would be good for them.

I filter mine through a funnel with a paper coffee filter in it. I swear by this method now after wasting money on a "Brine Shrimp Net," as well as trying women's nylon stockings and a cotton rag. The Brine Shrimp Net was completely useless, the other methods worked better, but I found a cheap $1 pack of white paper coffee filters to be the most practical. For a funnel and brine solution catcher I use a 2L pop bottle. I chop the top portion of and invert it to use as a funnel. I syphon the BBS into the middle of the filter/funnel. I always inspect the solution that drains out and never see any stray BBS since siwtching to coffee filters. I poor the drained solution back into the original conatainer and then gently run tap water through the filter/funnel to clean of any remaining brine solution. I now just submerge the filter in the tank and shake the brine shrimp off and the fish all go nuts.

Also, if looking for brineshrimp eggs, buy in bulk. It's way cheaper. A 6 gram container cost me about $10 CAD locally whereas a 1lb can (453 grams) cost me $50 CAD from online @ http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com
