HI there

Know I am not asking in the right section but didn't know where to post this, as needed to enclose a pic, whilst cleaning out my tank earlier I noticed this...anyone know what it is? IIt has a three pronged tail and big eyes...lol

It looks rather creepy and not sure how it got in my tank?

Ok I shall have to put it in a pond...there are a few round where I live, didn't realise they lived underwater as babies, but hey what do I know :)

Thanks for all your help.

yep the dragonfly lays its eggs on plant leaves under water. The eggs hatch and the larvae spend months underwater growing and developing. Once they are old enough they pupate before hatching out as an adult dragonfly. Then they fly around for a few days to weeks trying to breed before dieing.
The nymph stage (underwater stage) is highly predatorial and will eat anything they can catch. Small fish and fish eggs are greedily devoured by them.
Some dragonfly larvae can grow to several inches long and will take on adult rosy barbs or small goldfish.

Ok thanks for that colin....it is only quite small at the moment, and I have it in a breeding net, it seems fine and tomorrow I am going to take it to a lovely little pond that is just up the road from me...my friend said just throw it in the garden, but I can't be cruel...I am too soft for my own good me....blimey not good breeding then dying is it? Mind you better than dying a virgin

be greatful you aren't a male redback spider or a male praying mantis. The female redback usually eats part of her boyfriend during sex, and the female mantis eats him completely but she starts at the head so he keeps mating with her while he is being eaten.
That goes to show that guys do have two brains, one upstairs and one down below. And most of their thinking is done with the downstairs one
