I saw a really lovery fish in a store the other day, it was really busy so couldnt get any info on it (didnt wanna hang around all day)
Anyway, i could draw a dodgy pic if you want, but it was a light brown/greeny all over.
It had distinctive yellow and black strip on the top and bottom of the fin.
A bright red strip from the mouth over the eye and faided into his body.
Im sure there was another few strips, but cant remember 100%

I got a dodgy sketch, but i cant get it on here from work.
Its shark shaped, (long and thin), big fins.
Ill have to go back down the store, cant find any info anywhere. Its not in my fish book.

Shark-shaped? So like a torpedo shape? Like barbs, danios, rasboras etc? Or was it some kind of cichlid? Size?

Did it look like this? (denisonii barb i think) :dunno:

Thats it, but they seemed a bit more of this colour, but thats the one.
Are they ok to go with what i got in my tank, listed in my signature?!?!?!

well it might get a bit soggy if you printed it out and put it in your tank

If they are puntius denisonii (sometimes called crossocheilus denisoni), they are a nice fish, can be expensive and not too common, they get to be about 6" and like to be kept in a group so realy you don't have room for them... Other than that, they are peaceful, quite hardy and non-territorial, active and highly adaptable to various pH/water params. so they are suitable for many community tanks though mostly to those on the larger side. I suppose you could try to squeeze a few in but it realy depends on what you think is best. You'd need to make sure the dwarf gourami and betta (be careful with those two - I know I've said it before but you realy should watch out) are getting enough food as red-line torpedo barbs (which is what I've always called them - appears to just be another common name for them) easily out-compete slow eaters like gouramies.

Afterthoughts :p : The difference in color may be due to a poor diet - feeding rich foods, especialy daphnia, has been known to brighten the color and contrast up. Some people also think there are several species sold as the red-line torpedo but I personaly doubt it - maybe just variations from different geagraphical ranges or possibly sub-species.

They were £22 each.
Shame i cant have any in my tank :-( They are so nice :-(
They were only about 2 inch's in the shop.
But wanted to get some proper info before i got some.

I saw these myself last February - they really are nice. It was in a large outlet witha really good reputation and they said it was the first time they had had them in. They were £25 then.

Lovely fish though. :flowers:

Definately a Torpedo barb (common name), my LFS (Oasis Manchester) sells them for £11 which is a good price. Very nice fish.
