Hi, I found my golden eyed dwarfs and reserved a trio at my LFS

He also had some extremely sweet little guys that I loved- labelled 'smiling' cichlids, they were so cute!

I don't know them and have never heard of them before?

What are their needs? Could a pair co habit with my other species of choice (other tankmates a few neons and 5 corys) or is it best not to try?

Will listen and leave them alone if you tell me!

The only thing I can come up with is the 'smiling acara' which is better known as Laetacara dorsiger. It's a dwarf acara and may or may not go with your trio - it all depends on the size of tank. In anything less then a 30 gallon I'd have to say no.

Neons don't usually make very good cichlid tankmates BTW, especially in smaller tanks - they're timid, fragile, and the stress caused can initiate disease in the tank.

So... what size tank are we talking here?

I think about 80cm long, so it's not really that big.

Probably a no then, that's ok, they are better off staying put.

Hmmm, the dwarf golden eyes are with glo lights in the shop, and I'm not fussy on the companion species front.

Glo lights instead?

Awwww those smilers were sweet though, there's only one solution...

I need another tank!
