Hello all.

After a house move, I need to re-set up all my tanks. Sp00ky has taken my old fish ( thank you very much sir ) and so I'm starting afresh.

For my main tank, I want to base it around a few big fish and a big shoal of dither fish.

I was initially thinking of Discus, but really like the look of Urua's.

Has anyone kept this species? What sort of expereince did you have with them? Do they want to be in a shoal, small group or just a single pair. Are they fussy eaters? What sprt of food did you feed them? How do they treat other fish? What sort of tempurtures were they kept at, I've seen everything from 22-30 degrees stated in books

Tank is 1,100l, so I have the space for a big group if they will accept it.

Many thanks

Steve

I used to keep Uaru's, very good fish for a community I reckon, extremely peaceful south american cichlids and very similar to severums IMO, vegetarians as well I think but will eat bloodworms and brine shrimp, infact they could well be omnivores. I had them in with green tiger barbs, corydoras and armoured catfish (hoplos) and they were totally fine with them. They are best in pairs I think, the ones I had never parted, always swimming together, very intelligent fish.

The temp of the tank was about 27 I think, (from what I can remember, it was a while ago I had them). One thing is though, forget having plants in the tank lol, they are total plant munchers, destroyed mine in days.
