so ive been looking for some more types of plants for the brack tank and nothing seems other than the slow growing highly demanding brazilian micro swords seems to fit the role of carpeting plant.

However, looking at widgeon grass, it seems it grows naturally in fresh water and salinty up about half strength sea water. It is widely distributed and forms nice thick mats.

Almost seems like it could have the potential to have the reputation of a very hardy plant like java fern. Only drawback is it might not due to great in a tropical tank due to it being a subtropical species.

But anyone have an info on it, like lighting needs, substrate needs? success in tropical tank?

Lilaeopsis also does well in slightly brackish water, as will Vallisneria and some Sagittaria. So there's quite a good selection of species for tanks around the SG 1.003 mark.

I dare say Ruppia maritima could be grown, but grasses generally need intense lighting, i.e., metal halide or better. They also tend to be quite demanding in terms of substrate. Do see "Dynamic Aquaria" for details.

Cheers, Neale
