It doesn't look real, but what an amazing looking fish. Me wants one.... one of those blue ones. AWESOME!!!

I've never kept one but they do apparently need plenty of open sandbed space. I'd imagine they'd be similar to lionfish as regards feeding.

didnt someone on this forum own one for some time??

i thought the collection and ownership of them were banned now since there numbers are depleted in the wild ?.....

They are very cool (especially like the first one pictured). Are these in the same family as pipefish? (they look like they should be).

I came across them on the liveaquaria.com website whilst looking for something else. They sell them on there. I don't know if they are captive bred or not. Very unusual fish and the first one is stunningly coloured.

Sea Moths are the Family Pegasidae. This falls under the Order Gasterosteiformes (perhaps better known for sticklebacks but does include sea horses and pipefishes). I am unsure as to what the first species is, as it does not appear to resemble either of the two speceis encountered by aquarists (Eurypegasus draconis and Pegasus volitans).

To compound the feeding problems identified by SH, the fish requires an aquarium devoid of LR unless you are looking at a 100 gallon+ tank with a far more depth front to back than height. This takes away the normal place to breed the foods required. Also, they require feeding four or five times a day, so need some pretty specialist care.

Naturally they are on my "consider if in a shop list" and I very nearly bought a fish thinking it to be one. It turns out the fish was a very young Helmet Gurnard, and a disaster was averted.

Ettienne had one a while ago but lost it after a month or so - never ate properly
