I bought 2 kribs the other day, 1male 1female, they are around 1inch half, the first night they were together the male would not stop harrassing her, and eventually the male killed the female, so the day after i bought another female to see if they would get on but still, he keeps chasing her around the tank, they have been with eachother for just over a week now, but he still chases her away from every cave and corner. now i read on the internet that you should have 2 females to 1 male, i dont know if its true but i bought another female today, she has been in the tank for around 6 hours, when i was floating the bag that contained the fish in my tank, the male came up to her and started, swimming sideways flicking his tail, is this something to do with breeding or aggression?

anyway after around 45mins i let her go in the tank, the male didn't notice her at first, but when he did he started nipping at her fins and side, The 2 females have been made to stay on the right hand side of the tank under a plant.
If they try to go over the other side he just chases them back to the other side.

Have you had experiences like this before, is it just a matter of him getting used to the females or is he just an aggressive little krib?

thnx in advance. :)

I had the same problem when I got 5 kribs, they got on well together for 24 hrs then 3 were killed in a day so I seperated the remaining 2. Both died a few days later. Yet they all came from the same tank at lfs and were getting along nicely.

Water stats. were fine as were the neons in with one & the plattys with the other. Krib versus krib, they would go bright red and one would pursue another to the death then start on the next.

guppyman,

untill yesterday i was having the same trouble. I had a nasty female that was attacking the serpae tetras relentlessly. I tried to calm her down by adding the male but she nearly killed him in the first hour so i took her back to the store and got a little bit smaller female... bout 2''. When i put the new female in the role was reversed and the male was going after the female fairly harshly. About ready to give up.... i tried taking the male out for a day or two and sticking him alone in the spare tank to try to let the female settle in hoping that she could hold her own once i put the male back in... worked like a charm. Within minuts of being back together the were swimming around together doing that courting shake thing thats so awsome to watch. Todays she has been trying all day to get him to follow her into the cave for spawning but he hasnt taken her up on it just yet.

cheers

I would go back to the store and get a bigger female and if that dosen't work, then just wait a while till the get new ones and then try again. Are you sure you are getting females?

You could try altering your tank around. The male may see most of the tank as his territory and altering it might help.

but if the female is bigger, it will kcik the males ass, i noticed that when i had that situation in my tank i had to take the male back for a bigger than female male

Depends on the fish. I have two males (one fully grown and one juvanile) and three females, all fully grown. The females never have a go at the males but sometimes play with each other. The big male is the only one that can be real moody but none of the fish have ever been injured.

The female needs to very big and she cannot kick the males ass if they pair which they will do if you get a good sized female that can keep up with the male.
