I was just wondering if anyone here had used a Poly-Filter before...

The reason I'm having to use it is that I keep having unexplained deaths in new fish I try to add to my tank. I have tested my water and had my lfs test my water and everything is checking out 100% normally. So, the thinking since I'm only losing new fish is that there's *something* in my water that my fish have adapted to gradually but that the new fish can't tolerate. Supposedly the Poly-Filter changes color according to what impurity it removes from the water so you can know what you're dealing with.

The lfs owner had recommended the Poly-Filter a while back if I was still having problems and, well, I am :( Since it wasn't very expensive at all and this problem's been going on for quite a while, I went ahead and got the filter this afternoon.

Anyone have any experiences with it?

Thanks!

By "Poly-Filter " - do you mean a polyester filter insert, like the ones you get with the fluvals?

I tried it once but found it was spent very quickly and didnt work out very well on a finacial basis, i certainly couldnt afford to have it as part of my every day media. It didnt seem to find any chemicals or metals in my water as it just turned brown idicating that it had removed natural waste from the water, nitrates etc.
