For example. I put 2 bettas together for mating.....female rips off some fins of the male.....
do they slowly grow back? or must I medicate them?

well i got this lil guy 19 days ago he has healed well so far with just clean water, not added a thing 
when i got him
Today
He had hardly any fins, so a few nips/rips would heal in no time
