besides varying their food [i only feed flakes..] because i can't afford to get other types of food...unless if there's veggies and stuff i can do [but i won't go out and buy like..frozen srhimp or w.e. it was..lol]
what else can i do???

Considering that you only have a small tank and no money to upgrade, I would have thought you'd be grateful as long as they do not breed. Remember they can have 40 fry or more in one batch and go on having more once a month for nearly a year even after you have separated the males and females. If you do not separate them, they will just go on breeding. And the fry will be sexually active long before they are of a sellable age, so if you are not able to separate male and female fry, your babies will indeed multiply.

Having said that, it is a good idea to want to vary their diet, to keep them healthy and happy. I think I have suggested this in another post- veggies are a good and cheap source of food for guppies. Maybe two or three times a week instead of flakes. And your bristlenose- what are you feeding him? Again, veggies are good. Peas, broccoli, spinach, sprouts, cucumber- whatever you're having yourselves really, as long as it is not cooked with fat or seasonings, and preferably not overboiled. Just remove the shell on the peas and crush them lightly.

:X With that many fish in a tank that size, breeding them will vary their diet for her. There can't be any room left to run or hide, so mostly she would just be feeding the bigger ones.
I can't stand to see them be eaten. That is cruel! :-(

Well, I suppose it must be sort of what Mother Nature intended - She can't possibly have had in mind for the guppy population of the world to increase by 4000% a month. Don't think it can really be called cruelty to fish, it is a swift and merciful end in my experience- far from the painful death that comes from ammonia and nitrite poisoning. I have tended to practise survival of the fittest- it's also a sort of kindness not to let weak and deformed individuals carry on their problems to the next generation.

i agree

whenever i've had livebearers I've left them too it, anyone who's quick and strong enough to make it does and that's it. If you don't have adequate room to keep all the fry then it's IMO the only fair and safe thing to do

that's exactly what i was going to do...i know it' snot tht nice...but if i do get babies then my mom would just have to buy me another tank haha :hey:

After your other post I'm shocked to see this one, You have fish dying , you have fin rot, and you are actually wanting them to breed? You obviously have not taken on board ANY of the criticism , constructive or not. You've just said you can't afford the food for the ones you have to be on a good diet and yet you want more????? Someone please hit me before I'm rude! :grr: Overcrowding your tank to get a new one is certainly not the talk of a responsible fish keeper. I'm not sure why you ask for people's advice if you are not going to follow it.

i know what you're saying..
if you just understood or stood in my shoes you'd see it completly differently..
everything's completly different,..i can't really explain it..
so ya...i don't know and also
i defiently WAS NOT planning on having them breeding right now..that is definetly for sure!!!
i just wanted to know for future because i've only had a molly breed but that was 1 day after buying from the fish store.

Anytime you want to start breeding anything you have to reverse engineer it more or less. Research your local market, find out what sells, for how much & how many. Your best bet would be checking out a local aquatics club. http://fins.actwin.com/dir/clubs.php?c=2 Should help.

Once you have that figured out you will know what you need for equipment to breed the quantity & type of fish that you can sell or trade. You won’t have great success breeding without the right gear.

Proper food, and plenty of fresh water are needed for breeding most anything. You will need to look into frozen food, as well as a brine shrimp hatchery.

Brine shrimp hatchery seems a bit over the top for breeding guppies to be perfectly honest. But plenty of fresh water certainly would be a priority. Which would clearly be a bit of a problem atm.

Tamara, since I believe you do have concerns to do wit overstocking, and the lfs will not exhange fish, have you followed my advice and asked them if they will take excess fish for free? It may seem hard to an impecunious fishowner, but if you think about it, it will be less of a financial loss than risking to have all fish die from water-related problems. And certainly cheaper than treating for finrot.

i did give one fish away [that's all my sister would take]
so i only have 8 guppies in a ten gallon tank
and so far...those are all perfectly fine
thos e8 are the ones that have always been fine...

nope, my sister's friend said he could try to treat it..that's the one my sister took.
the other 8 look quite happy!
and i'm putting in more and more fake leaves [i knwo reals better...but with me i don't think it's that great of an idea..something would happen for sure haha]
